One day you are able to perform every one of the six activities of daily living:

• Toileting: Use a toilet and perform associated personal hygiene
• Eating: Feed oneself

• Transference: Move oneself into or out of a bed or a chair

And then without warning, or maybe with slight indications over time, you find yourself unable to perform at least two of the six activities or you develop severe cognitive impairment, such as Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of

dementia, making it impossible for you to live independently without fear for your safety.
